It is to be regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their own selfish purposes.

The essence of Government is power; and power, lodged as it must be in human hands, will ever be liable to abuse.

Government ‘help’ to business is just as disastrous as government persecution… the only way a government can be of service to national prosperity is by keeping its hands off.
